To Bengedaly: Yes, but "Sanie cu zurgălăi" ("Sleigh with bells", "Сани с бубенцами"; note that Romanian word for sleigh, sanie, originates from common Slavic sani of the same meaning and grammatical properties: the both nouns are plurals with non-existing singular forms) is origin of just music, whereas the lyrics is completely different. The Russian text is a cover of the 2nd or even 3rd order, via English (where the sanie first turned into the name Johnny) and then French ones...
It’s a pleasure to dig into all these details... I remember the French version which was very popular in USSR (Edith Piaf, recorded in 1972)...
