Nadezhin seems to have been based in Britain, and was well-known to the staff of "the Gramophone" magazine, who called him "our Russian baritone". I also once had a book of poetry (in Russian, printed in England) by him. I have an Edison Bell record by him but I can't remember if it's the same one as this. (I also have a slightly later Edison Bell record by Tatiana Makushina that I must look out.)

I think "the Great Russian Baritone" is an exaggeration.
