This seems to be "Donau Wellen Walzer" by Iosif Ivanovici .

Похоже, правильное немецкое написание должно быть слитным: Donauwellen. А слово "Walzer" -- не часть названия в строгом смысле. Вот примеры немецких нотных изданий:

Это преобладающий вариант, хотя встречаются и другие:

Ivanovici himself wrote "Donau Wellen Walzer" on the envelope of the sheet music.

Yes, I know this fact. But since 1880, there have been several reforms of German spelling. Also, German probably was not Ivanovici’s first language. So, the question is: in standard modern German language, what is the correct form of this waltz’s title?

I would always suggest the author’s own versions/spellings, but why not mention both?
Concerning Ivanovici’s mother language: As he was jewish, his family would most propably have spoken jiddish, which is a German dialect.

There is no evidence that the Ivanovici family was Jewish. This family was of Serbian origin. The current heirs of the composer Ion Ivanovici (with some I was personally acquainted) do not identify themselves with the Jewish people.

Just because the Donauwellenwalzer was dedicated to Sarah Fried from the city of Lugoj (germ. Lugosch) -- and the text says alot about jewish community of this city.
