The announcement shows this was sponsored by the Anglo-Italian Commerce Company who were active around 1903. But the song dates from 1904. I don't know how long the AICC existed for but I suspect 1909 is too late.

Pathé Frères took over the Italian business of A.I.C.C. in May 1905, transferring its cylinder repertoire to disc. These were (re-)issued in the 80000 to 83000 Pathé series.

Thank you! May be prefix "R-" in catalog numbers means "re-issue" ?

and it can't be earlier that 1904, the date of the song's publication.

Funnily enough it was commissioned by the Gramophone Company who got Caruso to record it on April 8th 1904. http://www.russian-records.com/details.php?image_id=18829 They got John Harrison their standard English tenor to record it on black label, and no doubt others in different countries and languages. And of course it became popular and was recorded many times later, but this recording must date from the song's first popularity.

Great, now we have narrowed the range of the possible recording date from May 1904 to May 1905 - not so bad in accuracy!
